Everything in The Breman Museum’s collection was saved by someone and has a story to tell. The stories behind everyday objects transform the from “things” into witnesses. They tell us how an item was used and what it reveals about a particular moment in time.
Museums save stories through objects. They preserve memory and meaning. Objects act as tangible storytellers. and museums give them context, care, and continuity.
Museums are not just storage spaces. They are story guardians. By preserving and interpreting the meaning behind objects and documents. Museums and archives ensure that human stories endure, are accessible, and continue to shape how we understand ourselves and the world.
The Breman, like most museums, is only able to display a small sampling of its collections at a time. This exhibition allows the museum to both display and interpret objects and textiles that have never been presented to a wide audience.
